PC #169: Italian Renaissance Painting from Russia

The first card I got from my new postcard friend, Irena. It’s an Italian Renaissance painting by Fra Angelico (Fra Giovanni da Fiesole) (1395-1455) entitled Madonna and Child with St. Dominic and St. Thomas Aquinas.

I’m really happy that Pope John Paul II is to be beatified on Sunday. He served as an inspiration for every Catholic in the world. The Holy Pope was born Karol Józef Wojtyła in Poland.

My friend Irena lives in a small town near Moscow, where a Mission Control Center is located. I had to Google what the Center is all about. Aha! So it’s an entity that manages earospace vehicle flights! The first person in space is a Russian, right? Yuri Gagarin, who rode on Vostok spacecraft to complete an orbit of the Earth. Sadly, he died in a jet crash.

Thanks so much, Irena!
