PC #231: Lake Baikal – Russia

Fantastic views of the oldest (25 million years) and deepest (1, 700 meters) lake in the world – Lake Baikal or “nature lake”, also known as the Galapagos of Russia. This lake located in the south of the Russian region of Siberia is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is so rich, containing 20% of the world’s total unfrozen freshwater reserve.

I also wish to see this magnificent natural beauty someday, Alina! 🙂

Lake Baikal

My hometown surrounds the biggest lake in the Philippines – the Laguna de Bay. It is saddening to see it dying, covered with thousands of fish pens. Ach! How I wish I was able to see it as it was before, before humans manipulated it.

Lovely Russian stamps, including the Rangifer tarandus or reindeer (ho-ho!) issued in 2006, and a woman sitting in her bedroom by the bay issued last year. Many thanks, Alina!
