PC #346: Pennsylvania – USA

Wonderful map card of the Keystone State of Pennsylvania, USA! It’s from Miss Mel. Pennsylvania, according to Online Etymology Dictionary, literally means “Penn’s Woods” (from the Welsh word “penn” which means ‘head’, and “sylvan” meaning ‘woods’). It was named after Admiral William Penn (1621-1670) who had lent King Charles II the money that was repaid in the form of land for the Quaker settlement in the USA.

CAPITAL: Hamsburg

MOTTO: “Virtue, Liberty and Independence”

FLOWER: Mountain Laurel

BIRD: Ruffed Grouse

TREE: Hemlock

ANIMAL: White-tailed deer

Pennsylvania is the second of the original 13 States. Thanks Miss Mel!
