PC #474: UNO City by night – Austria

This card from Babsy shows the Vienna International Centre colloquially known as UNO City due to the fact that it houses the United Nations Office in Vienna. It was designed by Austrian architect Johann Staber and was completed in 1979.

Uno City bei Nacht

Awesome stamps include one that commemorates the 50 Years of Manned Space Flight (50 Jahre bemannte Raumfart) and one that commemorates the 90th Year of Burgenland, the 7th largest of Austria’s 9 states.

PC #426: An art card from Austria

Bei Dir fühle ich mich nudelwohl.. I’m not quite sure if my translation is right.. but it’s “By you (or with you), I’m a good noodle.” Kinda sweet.. This Diddl card, by the way, is from my dear friend Babsy. And it reminds me of a German comedy clip by Loriot, the Noodle episode, shared by another good friend.

I wish I was Hildegard. I’ll really have.. a good laugh. But then, she found a new love. And for the record, I wouldn’t miss any chance to hear the words that the guy had said to Hildegard.

Babsy used nice stamps as always ♥

PC #371: The Charles Church – Austria

Another nice card from Babsy. This is the Charles Church (Karlskirche) in Vienna, one of the most magnificent structures in the city. It was commissioned by the emperor in thanks for answered prayer and also to glorify the Habsburg Empire.

The Black Plague swept through Vienna in 1713, and Emperor Charles VI made a vow to build a church dedicated to his namesake, the Italian bishop St. Charles Borromeo, if the plague will left the city. His prayer was answered and the construction began in 1715 and ended in 1737.

The Charles Church

Stamps include the  Frauenschuh (literally translated as women’s shoes XD), and a commemorative stamps of the Austrian airlines’ 50th year. Thanks to Babsy ♥

PC #370: Seegrotte – Austria

Here’s the largest underground lake in Europe, the Seegrotte. It is situated in the village of Hinterbrühl not far from Vienna. The lake is an important historical site, used to be a mine where combat aircraft such as the world’s first jet fighter, the Heinkel He162, were constructed.

Seegrotte

Stamps used include the Steinadler (Golden eagle), the Wörthersee Kärnten lake, and the EU-Präsidentschaft issued in 2006. Thanks to Babsy! ♥

PC #335-336: Vienna – Austria

Here are two beautiful cards from Babsy! The first one shows a frog monument while the second shows St. Stephen’s Cathedral.

The card above reminds me of the Frog Prince, together with the saying that sometimes, you will have to kiss a lot of frogs to get to know which one is the prince. *Lol* The card comes with beautiful stamps, I love them all!

Card Number 2 is very picturesque, if I may say. I can get a full view of how Vienna looks like.

St. Stephen's Cathedral

Another set of lovely stamps! Many thanks to Babsy 😉

PC #274-275: Vienna Town Hall; Parliament Building – Austria

Two awesome cards from my friend, Babsy. 😉

1. Vienna Rathouse/Town Hall: Wow, such majestic lights. The building was designed by Friedrich von Schmidt and it was built between 1872 and 1883.

Vienna Town Hall

As always, the card was matched with fantastic stamps. Yay! So we have here Sisi, the famous Empress with her stunning diamond stars (hair clips) designed by once court jeweller Rozet and Fischmeister; akelei, an ornamental plant; and the Schönbrunn Palace, a UNESCO site.

2. Austrian Parliament Building: The structure was designed by Theophil Edvard Hansen with a Greek touch. The Athena fountain in front of the building is one of the famous tourist attractions in Vienna. Hmm.. why Athena? Why not Eros? *ggg* Just kidding.

Austrian Parliament Building

Awesome stamps used! I particularly like the train ones! Thank you so much, Babsy! 🙂
