PC #452: British Columbia – Canada

CA-211446

A nice map card of British Columbia from Katie (kitkat49). British Columbia is the westernmost province of Canada and it was Queen Victoria who named it in 1858. There were nice facts on the back of the card, like the area (952, 263 sq. kms.), population (3.5 million, wow), capital city (Victoria, like the queen), provincial flower (dogwood, haven’t seen one. hm.), provincial bird (Steller’s jay), and scenery (Awesome!, agree!).

Beautiful stamps used! Basically, they’re some highlights of the past year: a glittery Christmas stamp, one of the Royal Wedding Day, and one of the Year of the Rabbit.

And of the many flowers, here’s the chosen one–the dogwood.

PC #297: Canadian Wildlife

A beautiful card with beautiful stamps! It’s from Xiaolu. On the card is the caption: Canada, known for its natural beauty is inhabited by a variety of wildlife. And so we see grizzly bears, a mountain lion on action, whitey mountain goats!, strange bighorn sheep!, and a bald eagle staring directly at me! I love this card. 😉

And what amazing stamps! The Year of the Tiger stamp was with hot foil stamping while the Year of the Ox stamp is slightly embossed. PLUS I get a Royal Wedding commemorative stamp! Thanks to Xiaolu!

PC #272: The Trumpeter Swan from Ontario – Canada

Yay, classes are suspended today because of the nonstop rain. ‘Course I’m thankful because really, I need some time off. So thank you, God! I just hope the rest of the Philippines is okay. Wee, cozy cozy. Before I completely forget who I am, (that is, going back to the teaching stuff), let me blog about some of the cards I got today. Starting with this cute family of swan from Ms Willa:

The Trumpeter Swan

The card contains a really nice description, thus saving me a lot of time, thank goodness. So I quote, “The Trumpeter Swan (Cygnus buccinator) was named for its soft, trumpet-like honk. Once abundant throughout most of North America, it disappeared from Eastern Canada early in the 20th century due to a combination of habitat destruction and hunting. Through conservation efforts the Ontario population has reached 1000. It is the largest native North American bird: adult trumpeters can have a wingspan of up to 3 meters, and can weigh up 38 lbs. Their usually dense layer of down make them almost impervious to the cold.”

Aw.. trumpet-like, eh? Pfft.. pffttt.. ft. (I remember myself trying to play the flute when I was a youngster.) But anyways, this card is really beautiful, especially that the swans glide into the water as a FAMILY. Thanks, Ms. Willa!

Ho-ho, a white bear for a stamp. Cute Hello Kitty stickers, too!

PC #154: Hindu deities

Lucky me, I won in another lottery. It was hosted by Carole (Taxingwoman) from Canada. This card was sent after the week Hindus celebrated the Holi Festival (Festival of Colours). Thanks, Carole!

Wonderful stamps of Fergie Jenkins (a Canadian former Major League Baseball pitcher), and two pretty flowers! I recognize the second one as the sunflower. It makes me think of the University Avenue all lined with sunflowers in April. Happy summer!

PC #142: Ottawa – Canada

North America meets the World RR

I just love this card! With views of the Parliament Buildings and Chateau Laurier at night, the Parliament Building and Eternal Flame, the By-ward Market, the Rideau Canal, and the Changing of the Guard. Plus it has a world map which pinpoints the location of the capital city of Canada.

Ottawa is the second largest city in the Province of Ontario, and the fourth largest city in Canada. I like its motto: Advance Ottawa! ^^

Thanks, Ange!

Ottawa

My, my, Canada everywhere! The Canadian flag of the maple leaf, the leaf symbolizes the nature and environment of the entire Canada since the 18th century. ^^

PC #63: A cartoon card from Canada

And so I joined this one interesting RR (Round Robin) called the Eyes Closed RR. Interesting because you pick the card you’ll send with your eyes closed. And Rose picked this humorous card for me, showing the cartoon Shoe (Illustration and text by Jeff MacNelly). According to Rose, Shoe is “a cartoon strip that is in most neswpapers across North America”.

OMG! A bear stamp!

PC #54: An art card from Canada

Deanna, who just got her dream job in a museum, sent me this nice card which is a painting of some sort of a crow (?) and rabbits underneath the tree branches. I like the mixture of colors. Nothing’s written on the postcard about the artist, just a ‘Blue Dog Rose’ caption.

A nice purple flower stamp was used:
